Stage 11, May 16: Assisi - Montecatini Terme, 255 km
The Race: Manuele Boaro was the final member of the day's break to be sucked up by a peloton determined to have a sprint finish. From that point with about 14 kilometers to go, the attacks kept going off the front, but the relentless pack was having none of it. There was a final hard right-hand corner before the finishing straight. Colnago-CSF's sprinter Sacha Modolo was near the front when he slid in the corner, taking out several riders, including some of Team Sky's leadout train. That left Cavendish with a big gap to close, which he couldn't do. Roberto Ferrari, the rider notorious for causing the big crash in stage 3, was clearly the fastest rider left upright.

Team Sky worked hard all day policing the peloton for Mark Cavendish
Joaquin Rodriguez successfully defended his leadership today.
Manuele Boaro took off late in the stage and looked good for a while, but was caught well before the end.
Ivan Basso after the stage. So far he's been able to stay out of trouble.
Mario Cipollini (who holds the absolute record for career Giro stage wins) was there.
Mark Cavendish was demanding Androni Giocattoli send Ferrari home after causing the crash in Denmark. Here's why they kept him in the race.
Joaquin Rodriguez shakes hands with a genuine cycling legend, Alfredo Martini (rode for Bianchi in 1941, for gosh sakes!).
