Owen Mulholland Passes Away
I write this filled with grief. Owen Mulholland died yesterday.
No one loved cycling more. Being brilliant and talented, he wrote about bicycles with an astonishing facility. In fact, Owen was the first American to gain accreditation to travel in the Tour de France's press caravan. That was in 1975, I believe.

Earlier he had raced in California and then went to Europe to compete when no one crossed the ocean to face the continentals. Owen owned thousands of cycling magazines, books, tapes and could talk knowingly about almost any race.
He was kind enough to let me post some of his essays on this site. If you haven't had the pleasure of reading his work, you have missed one of the sport's finest writers. You'll find several of his pieces on this page.
He was a gentle, sweet, tough, learned, industrious, joy-filled man.
I will try to be more like him.
