Weather at the finish city of Torquay at 12:00 Noon, local time: 19C (67F), cloudy, with the wind from the south at 18 km/hr (11 mph). No rain is forecast.

The race: Samuel Watson (INEOS Grenadiers) did not start.

Here's the race report from winner Tobias Lund Andresen's Team Picnic-PostNL:

Team Picnic PostNL got their 2025 campaign underway in great fashion, sprinting to a remarkable win at the Surf Coast Classic with Tobias Lund Andresen after a dominant team performance.

Coming off the back of promising rides at the Tour Down Under, Team Picnic PostNL were determined to make the most of their trip to Australia; and do that they did. Alert from the flag drop the team were attentive to any dangerous attacks on the climb, before the race split in the crosswinds. Well represented with six riders in a front group of around 30, things eventually came back together for a fast finish.

Keeping a calm head, communicating well with each other and staying organised, the team produced a brilliant lead-out to bring Lund Andresen into a position to go for it in the sprint. Kicking hard and giving it his all on his Lapierre speed machine, Lund Andresen could raise his arm aloft in jubilation as he crossed the line to celebrate a brilliant Team Picnic PostNL victory.

The podium, from left: Sam Welsford (2nd), Tobias Lund Andresen (1st) & Tim Torn Teutenberg (3rd).

A jubilant Lund Andresen said: “Today was a lovely day for us. We’ve been working very hard here the whole time Down Under and the days leading up to this. I really felt the full support of the team. We were up there at the front the whole day and in the first split we had six guys in there which was great. It was a hard and fast day of racing but with the support of my team it felt quite fun to be honest actually. I’m so happy to pay back the trust from the team and the guys today with this win; so let’s keep this up on Sunday.”

Team Picnic PostNL coach Matt Winston added: “The boys rode superbly all day. The race split after 60 kilometres and we had six guys in the front, and we pushed on there to try and take an advantage, knowing that if it regrouped that those teams chasing would also have spent energy. It all came back but everyone stayed nice and calm running into the final. We really looked after Tobi and did a fantastic job to deliver him to the finish line where he could take a really nice sprint win with us. It was a fantastic job by the whole team today and we can be really happy with that.”

It's time to race.
